A Must Stop in Tahiti
Whether you are a souvenir buyer or prefer your memories and photos as reminders of your travels, the Papeete Market is a must-see while on the island of Tahiti.

Let's start with the shopping. If you are a souvenir type person, there is no better place to find that special treasure for yourself, for your kids, your parents, or your friends! They have wood carvings, lotions, oils, face masks (thanks, Covid), sarongs, t-shirts, and of course, beautiful black pearls in every form of jewelry you can imagine. Plus, so much more! If you can't find it here, you really don't need to take it home.
Next, the people. We purchased a wood carving (the hubby's favorite souvenir) and had the chance to meet the kindest man who, through is half Tahitian half french with a little English, told us all about his family and his carving business. His mom was there with him and was beaming with pride. Each person we interacted with, whether we purchased something or not, was kind and grateful we were in their country. (I mention this because we have been places where we were not treated the same way!! Cough Cough **Jamacia**) I have come to believe how the people of a country treat you speak volumes about the culture.
Last, the FOOD. I mean, let's be honest, for me, it is all about the food!

The fruit alone here would be enough to bring me back, but add in the pastries, the bread, the fish, and the desserts, and it is unforgettable. We purchased some pre-sliced mango from a vendor and snacked on it while we shopped. It was fresh and yummy. And once again, kindest seller we bought it from.
Be sure and put a stop here on your to-do list while vacationing in French Polynesia. Not only will you grab what you want to remember your trip but probably meet some amazing people along the way!
Happy Travels,
Christina
PS Don't forget to head upstairs too! There are more shops up there!
